Alright, I recently switched jobs and was given a MacBook Pro for development. I'm sure many Devs would be very happy with such a machine. Specs and Perfs are good. But... what's the deal with Apple?
-
I mean, I had an old white plastic MacBook in 2010 and I loved it. Really nice machine. Today, I have a gimmicky laptop. The touchbar is useless (and unusable imho, no tactile feedback - I keep activating the Siri thing by accident).
-
The touchpad is weird. Why do the weird things with motor and stuff? Please give me a clickable trackpad that works reliably.
-
Sharp edges all over the place and when it gets hot, it gets fracking hot so sure, you've optimized your touchpad and keyboard width to make it thin but in no way does this seem to increase the experience.
-
The software is weird. Virtual desktop management is strange (why o why move any window I maximize to its own virtual desktop? Who _wants_ that?). There are a myriad ways to use exposé but none of them is really clear.
-
Keyboards... Well, wtf. I Belgium we have specific layouts, notably Belgian French. macos is *unaware* it exists. I need to find a custom keyboard map to have my external keyboard work properly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯a
-
And the magic mouse. I won't go into details, it's just unusable.
-
So, advice, anyone? :P
